What's on ebay? This is not a GGO Decanter!

Vintage GGO (Greater Greensboro Open) Decanter Liquor Bottle By Royal Halburton China
As my reader(s)know(s) the ggoblogger likes to search the internet to find cool collectible tournament related items. I found this decanter and knew right away that it is in fact not a GGO decanter. How do I know this, because I wrote the book on GGO decanters.

I think it is over priced at $49.00, but if you're into High Point stuff or a member of the Hight Point Jaycees then maybe you should look into it. I can see why the seller made the connection. It is a decanter and High Point is close to Greensboro and the Jaycees once ran the tournament, but that was the Greensboro Jaycees and not the High Point Jaycees. (They did the boat drag.)

The building this decanter is modeled after did appear in one of those cool Wyndham Championship TV spots this year. The one with the giant golf ball rolling around town. Yeah, the ball rolled right by the building.
"This auction is for a vintage GGO Greater Greensboro Open decanter.(It's not a GGO decanter.) These were given away at the GGO tournament. (They were not given away at the tournament. They were sold at the local ABC stores for about $14.99.)
They are very rare & hard to find.(If you call 6,000 rare and ebay hard to find.) The decanter is porcelain and made by Royal Halburton. The decanter is a tribute to High Point, North Carolina and the Furniture Market. The decanter is in excellent shape. It does not have any nicks or cracks. It does have some light stains just do the shear age of the piece.(The stains are not age, it's the bourbon leaking out.) I do believe the gold trim is gold plated as well. It measures 6 inches wide & 8.5 inches tall."

Bobby Long at the Wyndham Championship

Bobby Long, chairman of the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation board, at this year's Wyndham Chamionship New Breed Logistics Pro-Am held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009. He played with Adam Scott, Bob Hebron and Jim Burr.

Fundraiser Planned

MacKenzie's swim instructor at the Spears YMCA was in a terrible car accident back in August and is still in the hospital having therapy. She sustained some head trauma and is having to relearn talking, walking, etc. She is doing good and making progress, but has a long road ahead of her. MacKenzie really loved Ms. Carrie and asks me several times each week if she is better and if she'll be able to do her swimming lessons. It's too soon to know her future, we know her recovery will likely be long.

I wanted to let you know that I was interviewed by a News and Record reporter for a story they are doing about Carrie and an upcoming fundraiser for her medical expenses. The article will be in the paper on this coming Sunday (probably in the People & Places type section).

The fundraiser is Saturday, September 26 at the Spears Y. It is a hot dog lunch sale from 10am until 2 pm where members and guests can purchase a hot dog lunch (hot dog, chips, brownies and a drink) for five dollars with all the proceeds going to Carrie and her family. They hope to raise as much money as possible to help with all her medical needs.

I hope you'll consider stopping by to help out!

Taylor Swift's Wyndham Championship Connection

With all the hype about Kanye West and Taylor Swift in the news, the ggoblogger thought it would be nice to point out how nice Swift really happens to be. Read the following. (Her truck was on display at the Kids Zone at this year's Wyndham Championship.)
"Taylor Swift's record company surprised her with a big pink pick-up truck for her 18th birthday, and she has found the perfect use for it.

On her MySpace blog, Taylor writes, "I'm very happy to say that I've decided to give my pink truck to Victory Junction Gang, a camp for really sick kids. That thought just makes me smile. For a few weeks, it's being kept at the Country Music Hall of Fame here in Nashville, in case you want to go check it out."

Taylor's donation goes along with her upcoming appearance at Nashville's Sound & Speed event, the country music and NASCAR celebration to be held Jan. 11-12. The event benefits NASCAR's Victory Junction Gang Camp and Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum. Taylor and Alan Jackson are headlining a concert Jan. 12 at the Sommet Center as part of the event.

The Victory Junction Gang Camp will use Taylor's pick-up to pick up children wih chronic medical conditions or serious illness from the airport and take them to camp. Taylor will officially present the keys to the truck to NASCAR's Kyle Petty and his wife, Pattie, at Sound & Speed."

" "Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic"

GGO and Greensboro Chrysler Classic History and Caddy History:

The Chrysler Classic at Greensboro originally known as the Greater Greensboro Open golf tournament or GGO, has been a regular stop on the PGA Tour since it's inception in 1938. It was played primarily over the Starmount and Sedgefield golf courses in the Greensboro North Carolina area in the 1930's, 40's, and 50's, and primarily at Sedgefield Country Club in the 1960's and 1970's. The golf course then shifted to a new tournament site that is now the current location of the tourney at Forest Oaks in the late 1977 and is now the permanent home of the Greater Greensboro Open and this years Wyndham Championship at Greensboro. The golf course and primarily the greens got a 'remake' under consultation with Fuzzy Zoeller in the early 1990's and then again by Davis Love in 2002.
