Clicks of Chicks

Clicks of Chicks-Back in the 1970's the Greensboro Jaycees Projector magazine would run photos of girls at the Greater Greensboro Open and they called this feature "Clicks of Chick". As you may know the ggoblogger is a fan of all things "Old School" so I'm bring it back.

FedEx Cup Standings

As the final event in the FedExCup Regular Season, the Wyndham Championship plays a vital role in the race to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. The top 96 players in the FedExCup standings coming into the Wyndham Championship have locked in a spot at The Barclays for the first event of the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. This means that all the players ranked 97 or higher in the FedExCup standings are "on the bubble" and are fighting to get into the top 125.

With the FedExCup points reset coming after the BMW Championship (third event), it guarantees that all 30 players at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola will have a mathematical chance at winning the FedExCup. It also means that the top five players in the FedExCup points entering THE TOUR Championship will control their own destiny – if they win the TOUR Championship they will also win the FedExCup.

"Pink Out" the Wyndham Championship

Drew Weaver is working to “Pink Out” the Wyndham Championship for Friday’s second round of the Wyndham Championship.

Last December, Weaver’s mother, Cathy, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had two surgeries and has now completed her treatments. To raise awareness of breast cancer, Weaver is encouraging PGA TOUR golfers and fans alike to wear a pink shirt to tomorrow’s second round of the Wyndham Championship.

“Thankfully, my mother has come through her treatments, and she’s doing well,” Weaver said. “But I still want to raise awareness, and I hope a lot of people will wear pink shirts to the tournament tomorrow.”

“I was just really honored that Drew wanted to do this,” Cathy Weaver said. “Drew's kind of quiet about stuff like this, but this was his idea. For him to do something like this is just wonderful, and he’s been extremely supportive.”

To assist Weaver in his “Pink Out” plan, the Wyndham Championship will provide pink ribbons for tournament volunteers, staff, players and anyone else who would like to wear one.

Brendan Gielow

Former Wake Forest University Player Brendan Gielow had a standout college career. Earlier this year, he became the first Wake Forest player to win the Byron Nelson Award by the Golf Coach’s Association of America. He made his first Nationwide Tour start last week and is making his first PGA TOUR start this week at the Wyndham Championship. He played for the United States in last year’s Walker Cup matches.

Tom Pernice, Jr. stops between holes 7 and 8 to pose for a couple of photos with young golf fan Stephen Calcutt during the Tuesday practice round.

Charlie Short at the Wyndham Championship

The ggoblogger had the good future of sitting next to young Charlie Short at Tuesday practice round at this year's Wyndham Championship. Charlie spent the better part of an hour explaining the secrets of getting great autographs, high school soccer and the importance of a good night's sleep. He was a very kind and polite young man that didn't stop to take a breath the entire time he was talking to the ggoblogger. I just kept thinking this kid should replace Johnny Miller.

Mike Weir-Nice Guy

This isn't the best photo the ggoblogger has taken at this year's Wyndham Championship, but I think it's pretty cool. Here we see Masters Champion Mike Weir waiting for a fan to explain to his bubby how to take a picture with his phone. Come on! Don't keep this guy waiting. Weir was a good sport about it.

Wyndham Championship Youth Golf Clinic

The 2010 Wyndham Championship Youth Golf Clinic was held on August 17 at Gillespie Golf Course at the First Tee Practice area. The First Tee of the Triad teaches life skills along with golf skills to children, ages 8-18. PGA TOUR pros Drew Weaver and Brendan Gielow were on hand to give a quick lesson to the crowd.

Wyndham extends sponsorship through 2012

“We are thrilled to extend our commitment to this historic tournament and to continue our partnership with the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation and PGA TOUR,” said Stephen P. Holmes, Wyndham Worldwide chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re particularly pleased to continue our extremely rewarding relationship with Victory Junction as the official charity of the Wyndham Championship. As committed as we are to serving our guests, we’re equally committed to supporting the communities in which we live, work and play.”

“We look forward to another great week at Sedgefield Country Club,” Holmes said. “The Wyndham Championship is positioned at a pivotal point on the schedule, providing players with a final opportunity to qualify for the Playoffs. This week, we have nearly all players ranked 110 through 150 in points, while several of the top 30 points leaders are playing with a chance to improve their seeding.”

The Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation and Wyndham Worldwide Corporation have announced a two-year title sponsorship extension for the Wyndham Championship, through 2012.

Wyndham Worldwide’s original four-year agreement was through this week’s tournament at Sedgefield Country Club. The first year of Wyndham Worldwide’s title sponsorship coincided with the debut of the FedExCup in 2007. The Wyndham Championship has played a pivotal role in the FedExCup as the final tournament of the Regular Season, determining the final seedings for the PGA TOUR Playoffs.
