No good can come from this. This is one of those photos that just makes you think. How does this seem like a good idea? On the bottom row we have Ben Owen, Dave Freeman and Ken Burris. On the top row we have 1999 GGCC General Chairman Bobby Davis, 2000 GGCC General Chairman Patty Rumpf and 1998 General Chairman Ann Vernon Gainey.

I recently asked Ken Burris what was going on in this photo and he claims that it is a metaphor for the fact that the success of the tournament and its General Chairman rest on the shoulders of the chairmen.

In the words of Ben Owen, "There may have been some drinking going on."

This 12 page sponsorship guide was sent out to promote the 1993 event. It included a Kmart GGO Tour '93 Schedule starting with the Coca-Cola Celebrity Pro-Am Pairings Party on Sunday, April 18th. Other sponsors that year included Merrill Lynch, Duracell and RJR Nabisco.

50th GGO Anniversary Logo

In 1988 the Greensboro Jaycees celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Greater Greensboro Open. This logo was used to showcase the 1988 GGO Kickoff Celebration.

Notice the blue light in the background. The guys with bags on their heads are not necessarily ugly. This practice was common back in the 1980's and 1990's. The people with bags on their heads represent members of the committee that were unable to be at the announcement.

Projector Cover Shot

This shot of 1999 GGCC General Chairman, Bobby Davis standing with Sam Snead and 1998-99 Jaycee President Kevin von der Lippe was taken about a month or so before von der Lippe was officially sworn in as Jaycee President. We needed to get this photo for the first cover of the Projector for Kevin's 1998-1999 year. The real trick was getting Snead in place and having Kevin put on the coat before any other Green Coaters saw him and gave him a hard time for wearing the coat before he was sworn in. (This is frowned upon by the old school.)
