"There are also some changes to the tournament, including a new scoreboard near the 18th green. The old, manually operated scoreboard that was often two or three holes behind will be replaced by a giant video screen complete with an electronic scoreboard.
The video screen also will allow fans around the 18th green to watch shots from all over the course."

WFMY Reports Garcia Will Play CCG
"Garcia, a fan-favorite PGA TOUR golfer, has officially committed to participate in this year's Chrysler Classic, set for September 26-October 2 at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro.Tournament officials also announced that other pros that have made recent commitments to the Chrysler Classic include President's Cup team members Stewart Cink and Tim Clark, two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer and Wake Forest alumnus Billy Andrade.
Garcia is No. 6 in the World Golf Rankings and No. 9 on the current PGA TOUR Official Money List. Garcia has logged one TOUR victory in 2005, winning June's Booz Allen Classic at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. The Borriol, Spain resident battled for the lead in Sunday's World Golf Championship NEC Invitational and has earned $2,642,458 in just 17 events this season.
"It's fantastic to have Sergio in our field," Chrysler Classic tournament director Mark Brazil said. "There are about six golfers on the PGA TOUR that every tournament director wants to have in their field, and we now have three of them. It'll be great to see the huge galleries following Sergio, John Daly and Davis Love III, and don't forget about Jason Gore. After his impressive showing at Pinehurst, he has an enormous following, too." "

News and Record reports "Possible PGA play could affect Chrysler Classic of Greensboro"
"Finchem says there are still "a number of options," but two sources who are privy to the discussions said last week that the tour is focused on a playoff race that would begin shortly after the PGA Championship and include four tournaments that lead to the Tour Championship, which is reportedly going to be switched from November to September.
The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of their relationship with the tour, said two of four tournaments already have bought into the plan, one of those the Deutsche Bank Championship.Finchem declined to discuss details of any models the tour has considered.
"To say any one option is the lead option ... there are issues with all of them," he said.Mark Brazil, tournament director for the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro, said moving the Tour Championship to September -- ahead of the Chrysler -- would hurt the Chrysler's field because players would have less incentive to play in Greensboro."

"In 1995 I began working for Guilford County. County personnel policies prohibit political activity. Since I felt I could not serve the community through a board or commission as the members of those committees are in effect political appointees, I became involved in the Greensboro Jaycees.
I have worked on the Empty Stocking Fund, Hospitality Areas of the ACC basketball tournament, the Greater Greensboro Nike Open, and the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic now known as the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro.
I am currently the Chairman of the Clothing and Merchandising Tent for the upcoming CCG Tournament.
In 1999, I was secretary of the Nike tournament assisting also with housing for the players and transportation for the PGA officials. The hard work of tournament chairman Mike Barber and our committee resulted in a $45,000 donation to Hospice.
The CCG tournament has each year raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our community charities."

2005 CCG General Chairman Justin Conrad Writes Letter to the Editor

Service organization creates opportunities
"Not your dad's service scene" http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050731/NEWSREC0101/507310310 (July 31) was an interesting but somewhat inaccurate look into the current state of some service groups historically associated with Greensboro.
Earlier this year, the Greensboro Jaycees http://www.jaycee.org/ completely rewrote their bylaws, streamlining the process by which one can become an executive officer of the club. While other civic groups are said to be "exploring ways to revamp (their) board of directors," the Jaycees proactively addressed this issue by encouraging access to some of our leadership positions.
The executive committee of the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro http://www.chryslerclassicgso.com/ , a PGA Tour event, currently features eight Jaycees (out of 11) who have been Jaycee members less than two years. In fact, Zack Matheny, listed in the article as saying the Jaycees didn't "make the cut," has actually joined the Jaycees and taken a leadership position on the Chrysler Classic executive committee. The information in your article must have been somewhat dated.
I would encourage any young person interested in becoming involved with the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro and the Greensboro Jaycees to give us a call. I think you will find plenty of outlets for leadership opportunities.

2003 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro Gala
Let the Sucking Up Begin!
Let the sucking up begin. Mike Davis is wearing a sweat shirt that let's everyone know how much he "cares" about incoming president Randy Harris. The president of the Greensboro Jaycees appoints the general chairman for the golf tournament. This display of ass kissing was a much for other would be candidates as it was for Harris. This let others know the Mike was going to apply for the job.
