Congratulations Tina and Pat

It is certainly not the intention of the ggoblogger to turn the Greater Greensboro Open Blog into some sort of wedding page. Having said that, it seemed unfair to showcase Siri and Kevin's wedding a couple of weeks ago and not mention Tina Hawkins and Patrick Carbone's wedding day.

Tina and Pat were married on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Mayodan Moravian Church in Mayodan, North Carolina. The wedding included the music of Elvis Presley as it was played during the Bride's Processional.

Friends of the Wyndham Championship will remember Tina from her many tournament chairmanships. She also served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Greensboro Jaycees.

Many of the friends Tina made during those Jaycee years were able to attend and there were no less than five past Greensboro Jaycee Presidents at the event.

What's on eBay?-1995 KGGO Program

"This lot item up for bids is a program from the PGA. THe 57th Championship of the K-Mart Greater Greensboro Open at Forest Oaks Country Club. April 17th - 23rd in 1995. The cover has a great color photo of the late Byron Nelson( he passed away in 1994). Inside there are over 350 color pages of pictures and facts about the tournament and its history. The program is mint in condition. This was the last year the tournament was called the K-Mart Greater Greensboro and the champion in 1995 was Jim Gallagher Jr."

Item number: 130174280671

This is the portion of the post where the ggoblogger reminds you to read the item descriptions carefully. While it's true that the tournament was last called the KGGO back in 1995, Lord Byron passed away on Sept. 26, 2006 at the age of 94 and not in 1994.

If You've Ever Wondered What Happens After the Last Putt Drops Read This

Brandt Snedeker Blog
Aug. 21, 2007

"It was kind of a whirlwind Sunday night after I won. The CEO of Wyndham was flying back here to New York, and he was kind enough to hold his plane for me and my caddie. We even had a police escort to the airport. All of a sudden, there I was in a police car -- for a good thing, of course -- so that was pretty unbelievable. It just all happened so quickly.

We were on that plane so fast and got up here so quick and it didn't really have time to sink in. I barely got a chance to talk to my parents and my girlfriend back home. Everybody was still in tears, just hooting and hollering, and being, you know, yahoos, like they tend to be. So it was definitely fun, but nothing crazy. I didn't really celebrate or anything. I just went to bed early. I didn't realize how tired I was. I got up here around 9 o'clock and was in bed by 9:30. It was definitely an exhausting day -- but the kind of day I could get used to."

Greater Greensboro Open Blog Nonsequitur

"In August, the South Carolina Parks and Recreation Foundation renamed its public golf-training center in Columbia after Rep. James Clyburn (D., S.C.), the House Democratic whip and an avid golfer. The center, which includes a driving range and putting and chipping practice greens, went so far as to erect a statue of Clyburn in front of its main building. (Their website features http://clyburngolfcenter.com/InstallationofStatue/content/index.html a 25-photo slideshow on the statue’s installation.) According to the city of Columbia’s website, the newly rededicated golf center "will not only focus on honoring Congressman James E. Clyburn, but it will also allow our community to highlight his many contributions to our city, our region, and our state."

Three months after being thus honored, Clyburn quietly requested the $3 million in Department of Defense funds for "First Tee," a youth program of which the center is the local host. Neither house of Congress voted on this earmark when the bill first passed earlier this year, as Clyburn had not requested any money at that point. He instead inserted the money for First Tee into the conference report (the final version) of the Defense Appropriations bill (it appears on page 207 of this 621-page pdf document http://www.rules.house.gov/110/text/110_hr3222crtxt.pdf.
Clyburn's spokeswoman, Kristie Greco, said the earmark had nothing to do with the Clyburn Center or its recent dedication. "This does not relate to a golf center in Columbia," she said. "It’s a program he supports and believes in."

She said that the funds are for First Tee to conduct its program for children of servicemembers all over the nation - hence its inclusion in the Operations and Maintenance Defense-Wide (OMDW) title of the Defense Appropriations bill.

"It’s to fund the program at military installations, for children," said Greco. "It builds life-skills. They learn setting goals and reaching them, sportsmanship, etiquette.""
