2021 Wyndham Championship Update

Si Woo Kim, J.T Poston, Ryan Moore, Camilo Villegas and K.J. Choi, will join defending champion Jim Herman, two-time champion Brandt Snedeker and 2011 champion Webb Simpson in the 2021 Wyndham Championship field. Herman won the 2020 Wyndham Championship on the strength of his record-tying weekend performance. His weekend total of 124 (61-63) equaled the lowest final 36-hole score by a tournament winner in PGA TOUR history. With the win, he moved from 192nd to 54th in the FedExCup point standings and into the Playoffs. He enters this year’s tournament 170th in FedExCup points and 143rd in the Official World Golf Rankings; he will need another high finish to make the FedExCup playoffs again this season. Herman will make his sixth Wyndham Championship appearance. Kim, who won the Wyndham in 2016 and the PLAYERS Championship in 2017, finished tied for third here last year and fifth in 2019 giving him three top-five finishes in his five appearances at Sedgefield. Kim is playing well again this year; he won The American Express, finished tied for eighth at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and tied for ninth at The Memorial presented by Nationwide. A native of South Korea who is competing in Japan this week, he is currently 38th in the FedExCup point standings and 55th in the Official World Golf Rankings. At 21 years, one month and 24 days when he won in 2016, Kim is the tournament’s second-youngest winner. Seve Ballesteros, who won at 20 years 11 months and 24 days in 1978, is the youngest champion in tournament history. Poston won his first PGA TOUR victory at the 2019 Wyndham Championship. The Western Carolina University alumnus fired a final-round 62 tying the final-round scoring record and tied Henrik Stenson’s 2017 mark for lowest 72-hole score at 258, 22-under par; he is the fifth North Carolina native to win the Wyndham Championship. Earlier this month at the Barbasol Championship, the Hickory, NC., native held the outright lead following the second and third rounds before falling to Seamus Power in a six-hole playoff. Poston is currently 66th in the FedExCup point standings and 100th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Moore won the Wyndham in 2009 following a three-hole playoff and is making his 13th Wyndham Championship appearance. The five-time PGA TOUR winner from Las Vegas finished tied for sixth in 2018, his best finish here since winning in 2009. He hasn’t won this season but finished tied for second at the John Deere Classic earlier this month. He represented the United States in the 2016 Ryder Cup Matches. He is 140th in FedExCup points and 170th in the Official World Golf Rankings. Villegas, the 2014 Wyndham champion, returns to Sedgefield for the first time since 2017 and will make his ninth Wyndham Championship start. Villegas continues his return to form following the death of his daughter, Mia, last summer. He hasn’t won yet but finished tied for sixth at the RSM Classic, tied for eighth at the Honda Classic and tied for 11th at the Valspar Championship earlier this season. He is 127th in FedExCup points and 239th in the Official World Golf Rankings. A native of Medellin, Colombia, the four-time PGA TOUR winner lives in Jupiter, Fla. Choi won the Wyndham Championship in 2005 and is playing from the top-50 in career earnings category. He is an eight-time PGA TOUR winner with 11 international victories also to his credit. A native of Wando, South Korea, he lives in Dallas, Texas and was the tournament’s first Korean-born champion followed by Si Woo Kim in 2016. Choi will make his 11th Wyndham Championship appearance and his first since 2017.

Louis Ooshuizen and Gary Woodland will play 2021 Wyndham Championship

Louis Ooshuizen and Gary Woodland will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club. Oosthuizen is No. 6 in the FedExCup point standings, No. 8 in the Official World Golf Rankings and No. 3 in the European Tour Race to Dubai point standings. A native and resident of South Africa, Oosthuizen hasn’t won this season but his last three finishes were second at the U.S. Open, tied for third at The Open Championship and tied for second at last week’s 3M Open. In addition, he finished tied for second at the PGA Championship at Kiawah Island and second at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The 2010 Open Championship is his only PGA TOUR victory, but he has 13 international wins. He played for the Presidents Cup international team in 2013, ’15, ’17 and ’19 and will make his first Wyndham Championship appearance next month. Woodland won the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach beating Brooks Koepka by three strokes. The University of Kansas alumnus is a four-time PGA TOUR winner. He hasn’t won yet this season but finished fifth at the Wells Fargo Championship, tied for sixth at the Valero Texas Open and tied for 11th at the 3M Open last weekend. He is 119th in the FedExCup point standings and 71st in the Official World Golf Rankings and will make his second Wyndham Championship appearance; he missed the cut here in 2012.

Bubba Watson will play 2021 Wyndham

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. A 12-time PGA TOUR winner, Watson will make his fourth Wyndham Championship appearance with his best finish coming in 2006 when he tied for 31st. He hasn’t won this season but finished tied for fourth at the Zozo Championship at Sherwood, tied for sixth at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and tied for seventh at The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek. He is 71st in FedExCup points and 58th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari will play 2021 Wyndham Championship

Justin Rose and Francesco Molinari will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club. Rose has 10 PGA TOUR wins including the 2013 U.S. Open and 12 international victories to his credit. He played on the European Ryder Cup team five times and birdied the final hole at the 2016 Summer Olympic games to win the Gold Medal by two strokes over Henrik Stenson. Rose is a native of South Africa who grew up in England but currently lives in the Bahamas. Francesco Molinari, who won the Open Championship in 2018, is a five-time European Tour winner with three PGA TOUR victories to his credit. The Italian golfer represented the European team in the Ryder Cup in 2010,’12 and ‘18. He will make his second Wyndham Championship start next month; he finished tied for 24th in 2014, his only appearance at Sedgefield. He hasn’t won yet this season but finished tied for eighth at The Genesis Invitational and The American Express and finished tied for 10th at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Brandt Snedeker and Harold Varner III will play 2021 Wyndham Championship

Brandt Snedeker and Harold Varner III will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club. These players join international stars Jason Day, the 2015 PGA Championship winner, and Tommy Fleetwood, 2011 Wyndham champion and 2012 U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson, Will Zalatoris and 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas in the tournament field. Snedeker won the Wyndham Championship in 2007 and again in 2018 shooting a course-record 59 in the first round becoming just the 10th golfer in PGA TOUR history to shoot a sub-60 round in official tournament play. With the win, he became the 10th multiple winner in tournament history. The nine-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t won this season but finished tied for fourth at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, tied for sixth at the Valero Texas Open and tied for 11th at last weekend’s 3M Open in Minneapolis. Snedeker, the 2012 FedExCup champion, is second on the Wyndham Championship career money list with $2,922,725 in 13 appearances here. He is 91st in the FedExCup point standings and 127th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 2012 and ’16 as well as the 2013 Presidents Cup Varner is making his sixth Wyndham Championship appearance. He was tied for the lead after the first round and finished tied for seventh last year for his best Wyndham Championship finish. The East Carolina University alumnus is 73rd in the current FedExCup point standings and 90th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is still searching for his first PGA TOUR win, but earlier this season, he finished tied for second at the RBC Heritage for his best-career finish on TOUR, tied for 11th at the John Deere Classic and tied for 13th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Webb Simpson, Will Zalatoris and Bill Haas to Play 2021 Wyndham Championship

Webb Simpson, Will Zalatoris and Bill Haas, will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club. Simpson is currently 16th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 49th in FedExCup points. He has five top-10 finishes this season including finishing tied for sixth at the World Golf Championships-Workday Championship at Concession and tied for eighth at the U.S. Open. He won his first PGA TOUR victory at the Wyndham in 2011 and went on to win the 2012 U.S. Open 10 months later. Simpson, who finished tied for third here last year, recorded a top-three finish in each of his last four appearances at Sedgefield. The Raleigh native leads the Wyndham Championship career money list with $3,527,268 in 12 appearances. He represented the United States in the Ryder Cup in 2012, ‘14 and ‘18, the Presidents Cup in 2011, ‘13 and ‘19 and the Walker Cup in 2007. Zalatoris, who is currently 30th in the Official World Golf Rankings, is best known for his runner-up finish at the Masters earlier this year. He also finished tied for fifth at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and tied for sixth at the U.S. Open earlier this season. Because he has not yet won on the PGA TOUR, the San Francisco native enjoys the TOUR’s “special temporary member” status meaning he can accept an unlimited number of sponsor exemptions and will use an exemption here. The 2018 Wake Forest graduate was the 2017 ACC Player of the Year, 2017 First-Team All-American and a member of the 2007 Walker Cup Team. The 2014 US Junior Amateur champion made his Wyndham Championship debut in 2018 but missed the cut. Haas, the 2011 FedExCup champion, has several excellent Wyndham Championship finishes. He tied for 10th in 2009, tied for seventh in 2012, tied for second in 2014 and tied for sixth in 2015. The six-time PGA TOUR winner hasn’t won this season but has made some solid finishes in his effort to return to the form that earned a FedExCup, six PGA TOUR victories and more than $30 Million in career earnings. He represented the United States in the Presidents Cup in 2011, ’13 and ’15 as well as the Walker Cup in 2003.

Jason Day and Tommy Fleetwood will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship

Jason Day and Tommy Fleetwood will play the 2021 Wyndham Championship. The 82nd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 11-15, 2021 at Sedgefield Country Club. Day won the 2015 PGA Championship among his 12 PGA TOUR victories. The Australian golfer has not won this season but finished tied for seventh at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Vivint Houston Open. He is currently 70th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 95th in FedExCup points. Day represented the international team in the 2011, ’13, ’15 and ’17 Presidents Cup. He played the Wyndham Championship in 2008 but missed the cut. A native and resident of Southport, England, Fleetwood will represent Great Britain in Japan later this month. Fleetwood is 34th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 128th in the FedExCup standings. Fleetwood is six-time international winner who played on the European Ryder Cup team in 2018 but is still seeking his first PGA TOUR victory. Earlier this season, he finished tied for fifth at the World Golf Championships – Dell Technologies Match Play, tied for 10th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and tied for 14th at the Wells Fargo Championship. Fleetwood finished tied for 59th last year in his only Wyndham Championship appearance.

Margaritaville at the Wyndham is back

After a 2020 tournament without fans, the 2021 Wyndham Championship, sponsored by Wyndham Rewards, will welcome 15,000 fans per day with digital tournament tickets. When fans arrive at the Wyndham Championship, tournament personnel will scan the digital ticket and provide the wrist band for that day of tournament play. Margaritaville at the Wyndham is back with live music every day, food and beverages, margaritas and a full menu of non-alcoholic options. Margaritaville at the Wyndham debuted at the Wyndham Championship in 2013 and has been the centerpiece of the Triad’s Party of the Year ever since. Hospitality venues for corporate partners also return in 2021. Most venues will be similar to the tournament’s signature hospitality look and feel although some minor adjustments will be made to accommodate partner requests related to COVID-19 mitigation protocol. The Wyndham Championship will be open to the public Wednesday through Sunday only.
