Some People Still Can't Believe He Got One

Don't be fooled by this photo. Mike Davis is not a Green Coater, at least not for another five years. This was a skit at a Greensboro Jaycee membership meeting where Mike Davis acted as a Green Coater. Gary Thrower and Ann Gainey are playing the parts of the cheerleaders. There were a few members of the Greensboro Jaycees that were upset that Mike, a new jaycee, wore the coat that evening. Little did they know then that he would be named the 2004 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro General Chairman five years later. Posted by Picasa

gatecity Comments on Mark Brazil and Price Cuts

"Since he (Mark Brazil) took over running the tournament he has saved a sinking ship. In his first two tournaments he got much of the community and corporate support that the Jaycees lost.

He (Mark Brazil) also demonstrated great political (and survival) skills in carving out a position of power for himself not dependent on the Jaycees. In Gate's opinion, he essentially now reports to the community and the big sponsors of the tournament rather than his defacto bosses - the Jaycees.

Brazil is the reason they have chosen to make commitments to the tournament, not the Jaycee organization. Soon that will become official when the tournament comes out from under the control of the Jaycees and becomes its own independent organization."

CCG Cuts Prices

"Single-day tickets will cost $20 compared to $25 a year ago. And if fans buy their tickets between Friday and Aug. 15, the price is just $10. Also, children 15 and under can attend the tournament free with a paying adult.

In previous years, only children under 12 were admitted free.Neither Brazil nor a spokesman for the PGA Tour in Florida could recall the last time a golf tournament rolled back ticket prices."

John Dell Reports "CCG Curious About 2007 PGA (TOUR) Schedule

"The PGA's television contracts will expire after the 2006 season, and although tour and network officials are expected to sign new three-year contracts, there has been much speculation about the tour schedule and the possibility of a shorter season.

If the season is shortened, some fall tournaments could be eliminated.

"It's a little bit of a waiting game right now," Brazil said. "We're waiting to see what the tour is coming out with. I've had some discussions with the tour, and they have been very tight-lipped about what they are doing."

Brazil said that his tournament's contract with Chrysler runs through 2006 and that the CCG is safe this year and next year."
