David Toms, Boo Weekley, Bubba Watson and John Daly have committed to play in this year's Wyndham Championship. The 2009 Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23 at Sedgefield Country Club. They join U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover who has said he will play in the tournament.
Toms is currently 11th in the PGA TOUR FedExCup point standings. The 12-time PGA TOUR winner will be making his 11th appearance at the tourament held in Greensboro. His best finish in Greensboro was in 2004 when he tied for fourth place.
Boo Weekley has two wins on the PGA TOUR. He is best known for his performance in last year’s Ryder Cup Matches. He earned two and a half points in his three Ryder Cup matches while also serving as the winning United States team’s emotional leader. He received worldwide attention for “riding” his driver “cowboy horse” style down the first fairway. He has never played in the Wyndham Championship.
Bubba Watson will be making his third Wyndham Championship appearance. Watson is Known as an ultra-long driver of the golf ball. He led the PGA TOUR in driving distance last year averaging 315.4 yards per drive.
Daly is enjoying resurgence in his career. He finished second in the BMW Italian Open on May 10 and is now continuing his comeback on the PGA TOUR. In his first TOUR event since his return, he shot a four-under-par 68 in the second round of the St. Jude Classic presented by FedEx last month, made the cut and finished tied for 59th place.
Daly has committed to the Wyndham Championship through the PGA TOUR. Should he not qualify for the tournament, he will play on a sponsor’s exemption. Daly has five PGA TOUR wins including the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 British Open. Daly will be making his 10th Wyndham Championship appearance.
