Revels says "Memorabilia needs to be maintained"

"Alexis, I appreciate you including the old board members in the event but I must say that I am devastated that there is to even BE an auction! 40 years of historical items and we are lowering ourselves to auction the items off instead of working with the city, county or state to see if we can find somewhere to highlight all of the wonderful items we have and the long history we have shared with the
city of Greensboro in an exhibit?

I can't understand the reason WHY we feel the need to sell off these items. Are we selling the building? Are we losing our charter? Is there a reason why 40 years of history needs to be sold to strangers rather than maintained and catalogued by the organization?

And if we are in desperate need to get rid of the stuff, we have two
gentlemen who have spent their Jaycees careers highlighting and organizing
this memorabilia! Can we not offer it to Randy Harris and Kevin von der
Lippe to see if they would be willing to store and maintain the collections
until we can find a permanent site for the items!

I don't know if the current board knows this but Kevin and Randy were just called upon to exhibit their large GGO collection to the Guilford Merchants Association's
annual dinner. IT was a huge hit and I would venture to say that with the
exception of Carson Bain's collection, these gentlemen have the most
thorough collection that is organized for display. I hope that someone will
talk to them both and offer them the important pieces of this collection for
safe keeping on BEHALF of the Jaycees.

The Greensboro Jaycees have had such a rich history in Greensboro.
Generations before us planted the trees we see lining Elm and Greene
Streets. Another generation built Jaycee park as a thank you to the city.
WE've rebuilt golf courses and bought vans for disabled friends. We have
made a difference in the city and I think that the memorabilia needs to be
maintained to share that rich history with generations to come.
