Si Woo Kim wins 2016 Wyndham Championship

Si Woo Kim won the 2016 Wyndham Championship finishing at –21 (68-60-64-67=259) at Sedgefield Country Club. He won by five strokes over Luke Donald. Kim claimed his first PGA TOUR win, along with the first place check of $1,008,000. He finished 2nd at the Barbasol Championship earlier this year. As an amateur, he won the Korean Junior Championship four years in a row. He is mentored by K.J. Choi, who was the 2005 Wyndham Championship winner. Kim, who started the day with a four-stroke lead, fired a final round 67, with six birdies and three bogeys. Prior to making the turn at -22, Kim had one bogey in his last 53 holes. He then bogeyed #10, #13, and #14 before a birdie on #15 moved him back to -20. After a weather delay on #17 tee, he birdied #18 to tie the tournament record for lowest overall score of 259 was set by Carl Petterssen in 2008. Kim led the field in birdies, carding 26 birdies, along with an eagle and seven bogeys. The tournament record is 28 birdies, set by Jeff Maggert in 2007. The last three players to win by five or more strokes at Sedgefield C.C. were Sam Snead by five strokes over Jack McGowan in 1965, Mike Souchak by seven strokes over Snead in 1961 and Snead by ten strokes over Jimmy Demaret in 1950.
