What's on eBay? Greater Greensboro Open "Golf Tournament 42" License Plate
"Greater Greensboro Open GGO 1970's Metal License Plate Golf Tournament PGA Tour
Historic PGA Tour Memorabilia from Saturday's Toys presents... an official tournament License Plate... from the Greater Greensboro Open Golf Tournament (likely from the 1971 or 1972 tournament). The annual event is known today as the Wyndham Championship.
The vintage metal license plate measures approx. 6" x 12" with two .25" punch holes neat top edge of plate.
Tournament used by a PGA Tour golf pro who was assigned the number "42" for that year's GGO.
The event was held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The text and logo are screen printed (forest green) on a vintage white metal license plate; while two fluorescent orange stickers were applied to represent the number "42" and appears to have been customized for each player in the tournament. Applied to vehicles provided by that year's sponsors and assigned to the PGA pros who were invited to play in the event
License plate is in very good condition with signs of minor wear; particularly at the upper edge where the plate was held with screws throughout the tournament. Nicely preserved in dark storage since that time.
Among the PGA golf legends who had previously won the tournament were Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Billy Casper, Julius Boros, Gene Littler and Gary Player.
Obtained through a private family estate in Napa Valley, California."
