Yahoo Sports names Wyndham Championship 5th best tournament of the year

"5. Wyndham Championship -- It was one of those tournaments that gave us such an exciting finish, and another on this list that included Jordan Spieth, who couldn't hold off Patrick Reed on his way to a first ever PGA Tour win. Spieth and Reed both ended regulation at 14-under, and while Reed played the opening playoff hole very solidly, it was Spieth who was forced to hole a downhill 25-footer to save par. Reed's birdie putt on the opening playoff hole just missed, and an errant drive on the second playoff ended just a few feet from the out of bounds. No worries, as Reed hit one of the shots of the year from the pine straw, ending up just seven feet from the hole and knocking that putt in for the birdie and the win." A little history: The tournament was founded in 1938 as the Greater Greensboro Open. The event has been played in Greensboro for its entire history. In its first four years, it was played at both Sedgefield Country Club and Starmount Forest Country Club, and shifted to solely Starmount Forest CC in 1942 and for the first time it was played after World War II in 1945. Starting with that 1945 event, it alternated between Starmount Forest CC and Sedgefield CC until 1952, when Starmount Forest CC hosted for a 2nd year in a row. It returned to Sedgefield CC in 1953 before Starmount Forest CC hosted three consecutive years (through 1956). Sedgefield CC hosted in 1957 before Starmount Forest CC hosted another three straight 1958-60, then back to Sedgefield from 1961 to 1976."

Owen Covington reports "New agreement in the works for Wyndham Championship"

"But generally speaking, the Jaycees are considering investing in the foundation using the proceeds of the building sale, which were $679,871 according to the group's tax filings, and forgoing annual financial support from the foundation in the future. The foundation in return would provide the Jaycee membership with perks and involvement opportunities related to the Wyndham, as well as operational support from foundation staff and leadership development opportunities possibly involving the foundation's board, which is made up of prominent members of the Triad business community."
