Wyndham Championship Honors Marty Sheets with Volunteer Challenge

The Wyndham Championship will honor the late Marty Sheets, its longtime volunteer who passed away recently, through the PGA TOUR’s volunteer challenge. The 76th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23, 2015 at Sedgefield Country Club. As previously announced, from now until noon on Saturday, Aug. 22, fans are encouraged to visit PGATOUR.com/Volunteers and vote for their favorite Wyndham Championship volunteer. At the end of the voting period, the volunteer with the most votes will have the chance to present a check from Astellas Pharma US, Inc. for $10,000 in his or her name to the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation’s Birdies Fore Backpacks initiative to fight childhood food insecurity. The check presentation will take place on Championship Sunday. Participating tournament volunteers also have an opportunity to win exciting prizes based on the number of votes they collect. In an effort to remember Marty Sheets and honor his incredible loyalty to the Wyndham Championship, the tournament will enter the name “Marty Sheets Family” into the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge, sponsored by Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) and encourage fans and volunteers alike to vote for “Marty Sheets Family.” If the Sheets entry wins the competition, family members of Marty Sheets will present a check from Astellas Pharma US, Inc. for $10,000 in Marty Sheets’ name to the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation’s Birdies Fore Backpacks initiative following the tournament. “Iris and I are so deeply grateful to the Wyndham Championship for remembering Marty in such a meaningful way,” Marty Sheets’ father Dave Sheets said. “Marty had two primary focuses in his life: the Special Olympics and the Wyndham Championship. Marty would be very happy to be remembered for his work as a tournament volunteer.” “Marty Sheets was the consummate volunteer,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Marty, in a lot of ways, was the face of our tournament, especially as it relates to our volunteers. He had an unbelievable outlook on things and could not have been a nicer person. I think we can all learn from the life of Marty Sheets, and we’re gonna miss him. On behalf of everyone associated with the Wyndham Championship, we are thrilled to be able to honor Marty through the PGA TOUR Volunteer Challenge.”
