George Andrew Boyland Jr.

George Andrew Boyland Jr. (Drew), a dedicated father, grandfather, friend, and volunteer, peacefully passed away on May 28, 2023. Born on June 18, 1942, in Washington, DC, Drew was the son of George Andrew Boyland and Claire Sophie Preller Boyland. He attended Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, DC, and graduated from Georgetown University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, specializing in accounting. After completing his college education, Drew made the honorable decision to serve his country by joining the US Army, where he received a commission as a Lieutenant and carried out his military duties stationed at Fort Benning. Throughout his professional journey, Drew held various accounting and club manager positions that took him to multiple states. His career path led him from Greensboro, North Carolina, to Hilton Head, South Carolina, and eventually to West Chester, Pennsylvania. However, despite his diverse experiences, Drew's heart always remained tied to his cherished hometown of Greensboro, which eventually led to his return. From an early age, Drew actively engaged in community service, recognizing the profound impact of sports to teach and unify. He generously dedicated his time to coaching various youth sports programs and collaborated with esteemed teams and clubs such as the Greensboro Generals Hockey Team, Carolina Cougars Basketball Team, and Greensboro Jaycees. In 1979, he assumed the role of Chairman of the GGO and became a valued member of the Green Coat Club. More recently, he found a sense of camaraderie as a member of the Founders Club and served as an officer in the Knights of Columbus. Additionally, he wholeheartedly supported his own children and grandchildren in their athletic pursuits, passionately cheering them on (and sometimes coaching) from the stands. Drew's life was an inspiring example of strong and unwavering faith. His remarkable strength of character, joyful spirit, and genuine kindness left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His humble aspirations to be a good and decent man made him great in the eyes of his three children: Dena Maginnes-Jeffrey (Phillip Jeffrey), Brad Boyland, and Ryan (Kyndal) Boyland. Moreover, he held a special place in the hearts of his five beloved grandchildren: Jack Maginnes, Sophie Maginnes, Elliott Boyland, Cooper Boyland, and Fynn Boyland. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, 1118 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC, on Sunday, June 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 2715 Horse Pen Creek Rd, Greensboro, NC, on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. A reception to honor Drew's life and legacy will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Knights of Columbus Council 13236 at 2715 Horse Pen Creek Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410 or Founders Club P.O. Box 7383 Greensboro, NC 27417
