The ggoblogger and the boss lady where out at the steak house on Friday night and ran into 1992 Kmart Greater Greensboro Open General Chairman Tony Collins and, visiting from the West, 1994 Kmart Greater Greensboro Open General Chairman Louis Moore. I told them both about the blog and I thought I'd post a photo of them. (Moore is to the left of Springer and Tony is standing behind him. Sorry Tony, I'll get a better photo next time.) 

Where Are They Now?-Kevin von der Lippe

1998-99 Greensboro Jaycee President Kevin von der Lippe has moved on to other leadership roles in the local community. He is currently serving as the president of the Carolina Model Railroaders. Hunt Stanely Helps Comfort Families

The Boss Lady and I were in Greenville, NC over the holiday visiting my father-in-law and monster-in-law. I opened the paper on Sunday and was surprised by the heart warming story I read. Just in case your wondering what makes this blog-worthy, Hunt Stanely was once a vice-president of the Greensboro Jaycees.

"Stockings comfort families in neonatal unit

A Colorado family has once again offered comfort to families whose babies must spend Christmas at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Though Hunt Stanley prepared 50 Christmas stockings, he handed out more than 30 stockings filled with a hospital cafeteria gift card, calling card and chocolate to families with children in the neonatal intensive care unit. The stockings also contained a letter with the statement, "Babies are kisses sent from angels."

"If we can go down there (to the neonatal intensive care unit) and make someone feel better that makes it all worth it," Hunt Stanely said of the couple personally delivering the stockings. "It's the gesture of letting someone know your thinking of them."

Stanley and his wife Katie gave 35 stockings last year to mark the first birthday of their daughter, Marianna. The now 2-year-old spent her first 16 days of life in intensive care in 2003 after suffering an in-utero stroke.

The family said the dark days were lightened when a family who was in the unit before them left an angel in Marianna's bassinet. The couple said it reminded them they were not alone. They decided they would pass on the same support.

With the hospital opening an expanded neonatal unit this year, the couple raised enough money through donations from local businesses, family and friends to purchase the calling and gift cards plus make a donation of more than $1,000 to the Ronald McDonald House.

The Stanleys‘ said they give gift and calling cards because of the financial strain most families face when a baby is hospitalized in intensive care.

Also, children at PCMH often arrive from communities where parents have to travel three hours or more to reach Greenville and have to rely on the telephone to keep in contact with family.
The Stanleys devotion to the gift program, which they call Marianna's Christmas Wish, comes despite their move to Colorado Springs, Colo."

Martin Studio Advertisement

This ad for Martin's Studio was in the 26th Annual Greater Greensboro Open Golf Tournament Program. Carol Martin shot the cover of that program. On his blog, Jim Schlosser made the following comments about Martin:

"The studio prided itself on versatility. Martin and Miller shot everything from the Greensboro Debutante Ball to the arrival of a new tractor-trailer truck at a local trucking terminal.

Martin, as the News & Record's first photographer starting in 1937, took early photos of what's now the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro golf tournament. He was later joined by Miller. They often shot from a platform atop the studio's "woodie" station wagon.

Their photos make for a visual history of Greensboro starting from the late 1930s until well into the 1980s, when both photographers began to slow down with age.

Nothing missed their lens, including the opening of the first McDonald's in North Carolina on Summit Avenue in the late 1950s.

After the studio closed and just before his death, Martin donated more than 350,000 negatives he and Miller had shot to the Greensboro Historical Museum."

2003 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro Gala

Gate wanted to see some more photos from that party with the bed. I couldn't find those, but I did run across this cute photo of Bart and Judy Revels at the 2003 Chrysler Classic of Greensboro Gala. The Revels announced in their Holiday letter that they are expecting their third child in March. The odds are good that Emma and Kate will have a new sister soon.

1988 Greater Greensboro Open Honorary Chairman J. Douglas Galyon Receives Autograph

1998 Greater Greensboro Open Honorary Chairman J. Douglas Gaylon receives an autograph from 1988 Miss America Kaye Lani Rae Rafko.

She was the first Registered Nurse to win the Miss America title. Michigan's Kaye Lani Rae Rafko was named Miss America 1988 and she elected to spend much of her tenure promoting the nursing and hospice care. Her work drew national attention. Her actions were so positively received by the public, that the pageant began an official "platform" through which future titleholders could become role models for public service. Her example of public service later became an official platform requirement for all contestants two years later.

Holiday Shopping with the Herberles

The ggoblogger ran into the Heberles at the mall on the last Saturday before Christmas. As you may know Doug, among other things, was the 2001 GGCC Area 10 Leadman and Lara was one of the three most successful Golf Rock chairman the event has ever known. She help put together the 1999 GGCC Golf Rock event. That night would later become the standard by which all the other Golf Rock events would be measured.

Dan Eldreth Receives 1997 Worker of the Year Award

1997 Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic Champion Frank Nobilo presents Dan Eldreth with the 1997 Worker of the Year Award. This award is presented each year by the Green Coat Club to honor the hardest working non-chairman at the year's event. The award was later changed to the Dan Eldreth Green Coat Club Worker of the Year Award to remember Dan after his death in 1999.
