Wyndham brings in Pettersson for golfer's view
By Robert Bell Staff Writer
"The foundation that oversees the Wyndham Championship has named Carl Pettersson as a player representative to its board, a move officials think will strengthen the tournament's stature on the PGA Tour.
The foundation's board of directors is comprised of some of the Triad's most influential businessmen. But tournament director Mark Brazil said Pettersson offers a unique perspective."Carl knows what the players want in a good golf tournament," Brazil said Tuesday.
"As a board, we can sit here and think about what players and their wives like until we're blue in the face. To be able to run ideas directly by a PGA Tour player like Carl is invaluable. He's one of the most respected and appreciated guys on tour."
Pettersson, who played golf at Grimsley High and N.C. State, lives in Raleigh and has been a fixture at Greensboro's PGA Tour event since 2003, his rookie season.Pettersson, 29, jumped at the offer when Brazil approached him earlier this year. Pettersson's family moved to Greensboro from Sweden when he was a high school junior, and he was a regular at Forest Oaks Country Club whenever the PGA Tour came to town."
