1941

“Our biggest project of the year was the $5.000 Greater Greensboro Open Golf Tournament held during the month of March. This event brought national publicity to the city of Greensboro. Our gross receipts were in excess of $11,000 with a net profit of approximately $2,800. We now have about 4,000 in our Golf Tournament sinking fund, of which 3,800 is invested in Building and Lean stock. All profit from the Golf Tournament is placed in a sinking fund to cover future losses. At out tournament this year we had the largest attendance of any golf tournament ever sanctioned by the P.G.A. Many of the leading sport writers and commentators who attended out tournament expressed the opinion that our tournament was the best that they had ever attended. In this connection we should extend to Odell Lambeth our appreciation for his fine work as General Chairman of the tournament.” Excerpt from the 1941 President’s Annual Report respectfully submitted on December 11, 1941 by Junior Chamber of Commerce President Rufus W. Reynolds
