"Golf legend Arnold Palmer and racing king Richard Petty will both attend the opening ceremonies of the golf tournament at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13.
Petty, whose NASCAR racing team is based in Level Cross, began his racing career 50 years ago, the same year Palmer, an alumnus of Wake Forest University, won his first Master's tournament.
"Any tournament director is always looking for the 'wow' factor sometime during the event," tournament director Mark Brazil said. "We have two Piedmont Triad legends that are among the greatest ever to compete in their sports. It will be a thrill and an honor to host them at the Wyndham Championship."
Also at the ceremony, defending champion Brandt Snedeker will hit the honorary first tee shot.
